Therapy
Taking the first step may be the resident’s
most difficult and rewarding step toward rehabilitation.
Our trained team of Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists
work hand-in-hand with residents to provide both encouragement
and skilled rehabilitative services.
When a resident is referred by their
physician for treatment, a Registered Physical, Occupational
and/or Speech Therapist from Prairie Rehabilitation evaluates
the resident’s needs and designs an individual rehabilitation
plan. We work with residents to improve their functional
skills so that the resident can return to their home as soon as
possible. We also
work with the family and nursing staff to see that all areas of
deficit are addressed.
Our therapists make a home visit to ensure that before
the resident returns home that all adaptations are completed and
the resident is safe to return to their home.
If it is not possible for the resident to
return home safely, we will work to see that the resident is as
independent in the facility as possible.
Therapy programs include activities to
improve balance, transfers and functional walking with the least
restrictive methods.
Training for function activities will include dressing, bathing
and meal preparation.
Speech therapy provides services designed to maximize
functional communication and memory skills along with
implementing individual safe feeding/swallowing programs.
Our therapists participate in resident care
planning, in-services and other educational programs to enhance
the quality of care. Our goal is to assist each resident
to enjoy a better quality of life by living more independently
with less pain
